FAILSWORTH football starlet Katie Zelem was jetting off to La Manga in Spain today to represent England under-19s in a tournament which also featured Italy, Holland and Scotland.
The teenager has played for Manchester United Ladies since the age of eight, and has represented England at various age groups 25 times.
As a reward for her achievements, Katie (17) and six other England starlets took part in a specially-arranged question and answer session with England and United star Rio Ferdinand at the Reds’ Carrington training base.
She said: “It was really good to hear his views.
“He was really honest with all his advice so it means such a lot.”
Katie is determined to make the most of her opportunity in Spain.
She added: “It’s a lot more physical at the higher level because the girls are mostly two or three years older than me.
“It’s a big step up and the game is a lot quicker — it gets you thinking.”
