Mossley goal drought goes on

MOSSLEY failed to find the net for the third game on the spin on Saturday at Lancaster City, but they did secure a welcome point in a goalless Evo-Stik Division One North clash at the Giant Axe.

Chris Denham went closest for the Lilywhites as he fired two efforts wide from good positions, but Steve Halford's men have now dropped to sixth place in the table having not won a league game since early January.

They do now have three home consecutive games to tackle, however.

They start tomorrow evening when ninth-placed Cammell Laird head to Seel Park for a 7.45pm kick-off.

Boss Halford said: "On balance of play we shaded it at Lancaster, but we're not finding the net and that's a concern for me at the moment.

“We are trying to bring one or two players in, but it's proving difficult.

"I can't fault the lads for effort at all, every one of them is working hard, but we need victories now as it's coming up to a very crucial stage.

"For some reason we're not quite firing in front of goal.

"It'll come though."

Lilywhites' front-man Lewis Nightingale will miss tomorrow's game through injury, while Mark Haslam is out as he is suspended.

ELSEWHERE it was a miserable weekend for Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One sides CHADDERTON and OLDHAM BORO.

Boro slipped to a dour 1-0 defeat at Atherton LR thanks to Adam Storey's goal.

At Butterworth Street, Chadderton were off the pace as Paul Atherton struck a goal in each half for Atherton Collieries as they secured a routine 2-0 victory.
