ANDY Hey broke his duck for the campaign in style as Unison ‘A’ defeated Werneth ‘B’ 7-3 in Division One of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.
It was Unison’s first win since November and for Hey it came as quite a relief.
After failing to win a single set all season, he pulled out all the stops to claim a hat-trick for Unison — alongside Barry Elliot, who claimed his eighth maximum of 2012-13.
Leaders Saddleworth ‘A’ maintained their single-point advantage over BAE, after coming back from a three-point deficit to earn a 5-5 draw.
The second-placed side claimed three of the opening four sets. Tony Bates and Tony Smith bagged a brace each.
Paul Cicchelli took the sixth for Saddleworth, before Tom Lang restored BAE’s advantage.
However, Ian McLean then picked up his first point of the evening and Cicchelli sealed his maximum, before the pair completed the comeback in the doubles.
In Division Two, Birley Moss extended their lead over third-placed Honeywell ‘C’ with an 8-2 victory.
Rob and Paul Carter took a set each for Honeywell, but maximums from Miles Benjamin and Kaleem Ahmed secured an 11th win of the season for Moss.
Deaf Club ‘A’ produced a solid home performance to deny leaders Hollinwood ‘D’ a fourth consecutive win in a 5-5 draw.
An Eddie Kalinowski double helped to give Deaf Club a 4-1 lead, only for James Chappell and Joe Redikin to narrow the gap for Hollinwood.
The home side looked to be heading for their fifth win of the season as Ian Cockcroft claimed his second victory of the evening.
However, Chappell wrapped up an impressive performance by completing his maximum before combining with Callum Allman to square the match.
