RUGBY:
WATERHEAD got their first National Conference League Division One points on the board in decisive fashion.
The Peach Road outfit swept to a 44-16 win against Eccles — just the kind of response coach Andy Sands was looking for after his side lost heavily at Milford Marlins on the opening day of the season.
Waterhead had built up a big lead by half-time — 22 to four — and continued to carry the fight to their opponents on the resumption of play.
Ashley Wildman, who had recovered from a knee injury, went over twice. Alan Williamson, returning from a back problem also crossed for Waterhead, while Mick Diveney kicked four goals.
