Hamerton and Smith are winter warmers

GOLF:
TWO local golfers gained top five places in the latest North Region Mansell Winter Series event at Royal Liverpool.
Brookdale assistant Grant Hamerton carded a two-over-par 74 to finish third, while Stamford’s Mark Smith was a shot further adrift in a tie for fifth alongside Matt Davies (Royal Liverpool).
Hart Common’s Steve Parry, who fired a two-under-par 70 in freezing conditions, emerged victorious, from Andrew Barnett (73) of North Wales GR.
WERNETH bowed out of the Mail on Sunday National Classic at the second-round stage, beaten 3-2 at Heaton Park.
BROTHERS Rick and Bob Irving won the morning Better-ball Stableford on captain’s drive-in day at STAMFORD.
Afternoon honours went to Paul Zrada and Callum Ralphs, while the overall winners were Tony McClusky and Neil Angus.
