DANNY Knight was rested for Sunday’s Standard Cup clash.
RUGBY:
WATERHEAD’S two wins in as many days made for a good weekend.
After breaking their duck at the second time of asking in National Conference League Division One, the Peach Road outfit booked their ticket for the Oldham Amateur League’s Standard Cup final.
Matt Fogarty and Josh Brown each scored a hat-trick of tries in Saturday’s 44-16 victory over Eccles, and both earned praise from coach Andy Sands.
But the new Waterhead chief won’t let his players rest on their laurels.
He said: “I wasn’t totally pleased as our shape could have been a bit better.
“But it was good to get a win under our belts and now we can look forward to a difficult match at Oulton Raiders on Saturday.
Sands used a mixture of players for Sunday’s 56-4 defeat of Higginshaw in the last four of the Standard Cup. Even three 16 year olds got a run out
Sands admits he could face several selection headaches in the coming weeks. One could come in the back row with Carl Sneyd fit and raring to go.
Although the ace goal-kicker is joining the army he is ready to serve Waterhead’s cause.
Sands said: “It is a massive boost to have Carl.
“He trained with us on Tuesday night and is looking good. All being well he could be available until August.”
