FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD needed a last-minute equaliser from centre half Mark Ashworth to salvage a 1-1 draw away at Leigh Athletic in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
The first period saw chances at a premium but Paul Stevenson had the best of them, firing wide after a good move.
‘Head were then dealt a blow as goalkeeper Gareth Coombe had to come off injured. He was replaced by forward Richard Bennett.
With the game heading towards a goalless draw Leigh mustered their first real chance of the game and their striker scored with only five minutes remaining.
‘Head hit back and Stevenson smashed a shot against the crossbar, then Nick Fitzpatrick missed another good opportunity.
In stoppage time Dale Jackman’s cross wasn’t properly cleared and Ashworth was there to stab home from close range.
This weekend Springhead are in Gilgryst Cup semi-final action at Monton.
ANOTHER defeat for Santos - this time 5-1 at Milton - leaves them well and truly in a Lancashire and Cheshire League Division One battle against relegation.
It was a fair performance from Santos, but missed chances and mistakes at the back cost them dearly. They were 3-0 down at half time.
