Inter-league team eye trophy final
Date published: 26 March 2013
THE Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League representative team takes on Hyde in the semi-final second leg of the Greater Manchester Inter-League Trophy at Mossley FC on Thursday.
The match is set to kick-off at 7.30pm.
Oldham have established a 5-1 lead from the first leg thanks to a hat-trick from Jonny Munson and further goals from James Curley and Leighton Stephenson.
Meanwhile, applications are now being invited for the Oldham Sunday League from new teams for the 2013-14 season.
The league has seen an increase in new teams for the past few seasons and would like to see that happen again next term.
The league is one of the cheapest in the North-West as the management committee keeps costs to a minimum.
Last season also saw the league pay insurance for participating clubs and, as a non-profit making organisation, is keen to ensure amateur football in Oldham and its surrounding area remains thriving.
For the past 45 years Challenge Cup finals have been played at Boundary Park and cup competitions are such that every team has a chance of lifting some sort of silverware come the end of the season.
Since December of last year 100 per cent of matches have had a registered referee allocated to their game and some of the officials have served the league for more than 15 years.
