Don’t get carried away — Jackman

RUGBY: Emmerson Jackman has told players to keep their feet on the ground as he prepares his Saddleworth Rangers side for tomorrow’s journey to Dewsbury Celtic in National Conference League Division One.

The coach is keen for minds to stay focused as they look to build on a from-behind 18-16 victory over 12-man Waterhead. Rangers were 16 points down before a second-half fight back achieved a first league win of the season.

“Waterhead were probably just the better side,” said Jackman, who has boosted his squad with the addition of former Oldham RL and Swinton prop Dave Newton.

“All credit to the lads for hanging in there. I’ve told them not to get too carried away, though. There are more big tests ahead of us, starting with Dewsbury this weekend.”

Jackman is without long-term injury victims Jack Bradbury and Paul Raftery, while Gavin Dodd is unavailable for the trip to West Yorkshire.

WATERHEAD put the derby defeat by Saddleworth Rangers to bed with a stirring win over Rochdale Mayfield in the Standard Cup final.
Coach Andy Sands, who fielded a mixture of youth and experience on Easter Monday, will look for more of the same at home to Millom in NCL Division One tomorrow.

AFTER two weeks kicking their heels because of snow and ice, Oldham St Anne’s return to the fray tomorrow. Chris Deakin’s side are at home to Shaw Cross Sharks in NCL Division Two.
