UP FOR THE TASK: Kath Storey is releshing her third term as Brookdale lady-captain.
GOLF:
TIMES might be difficult for Brookdale but Kath Storey didn’t hesitate when asked to take on the role of lady-captain for a third successive year.
Kath, a 28-handicapper and wife of former Brookdale president Brian, has extended her captaincy spell into a third term, mainly – she is happy to admit – due to a lack of interest in the role from other lady members.
“The lady membership numbers have dropped quite a lot in recent years,” said Kath. “That’s disappointing. But once I’d been asked to carry on I said yes straight away.
“I’ll be very proud to be the lady-captain. To be asked once is very humbling, but to be asked three times is just brilliant.
Kath has been a member at Brookdale since 1998, and in common with almost all golf clubs, membership has dwindled over the years.
But Kath says recovery may well be coming for the Woodhouses officials.
“It is very difficult for a lot of players at the moment. The economic climate isn’t good, but I was happy to hear we have had a number of new members sign up over the past two or three weeks.
“That’s positive news and really encouraging. We have a beautiful course here and I certainly like to get out and play at least two or three times a week.”
