WERNETH will have a new-look side in their bid to improve on some disappointing recent campaigns.
They have a new, experienced pro in ex-Crompton and Royton’s Mohammed Zaman Khan.
And then there is the arrival of an overseas amateur with an almost- famous name.
Shayne Wornes, from Perth, does bowl wrist spin, but his main attribute is his batting.
Wornes and Khan will bolster a batting line-up that also includes skipper Matt Taylor, new signings Syed Haider and Ali Muzaffer (ex-Milnrow), Joe Taylor and John Slater.
The Taylors will spearhead the bowling attack, and there will be seam back-up from Mahmood Ul-Hassan and ex-Crompton player Majid Khan.
Another new signing, Rash Khan, has joined from Hollinwood in the Saddleworth League and will provide leg spin, while Zaman Khan’s off spin is sure to be a steady source of wickets.
Mark Dronsfield and Franco Lenhardt are both taking a break from cricket this season.
Like the other seven teams in the Championship, Werneth’s aim is promotion and a place in next season’s Premier Division.
