Trophy semis go down to the wire

BOTH of the eagerly-awaited Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League President’s Trophy semi-final ties went all the way to penalty shoot-outs on a dramatic afternoon.

Famous King George ‘A’ and Red Star were locked at 2-2 at the end of extra-time, with King George then making it through to the final thanks to a 4-3 shoot-out victory.

Daniel Jackson and Steve Wild had scored for Famous King George in normal time.

In the other last-four tie, Limeside King George and Rifle Range ‘A’ couldn’t muster a goal between them, with King George going on to win the penalty shoot-out 5-3.

Martin Buckley Division Two Shield quarter-final action saw Royton Athletic make progress thanks to a 6-2 win against Oldham Tigers.

On target for Athletic were Daniel Oatway (two), Stephen Palfreyman (two), Lewis Johnson and Dane English.

Noor Uddin scored twice for the Tigers.

In the Jack Abbott Premier Division, Legends Bar edged out Oddies Athletic 4-3 (see Match of the Day).

Fitton Hill beat Crompton House Old Boys 2-0 as Stephen Grimshaw and Paul Badby were on target.

David Giblin Division One action saw Failsworth Athletic sneak past Anglers 4-3 as Niall Sultan (two), Reece Lyndon and Tom Wood netted.

Paul Naylor (two) and Mark Simms replied for Anglers.

Mike King’s double strike was enough for Oldham GPO to secure a 2-1 win against Springhead Libs ‘A’. Scott Ashton pounced for Libs.

The Kenyon had both Schofield and McCarrick bagging braces in a 5-4 win against Willow Tavern.

Ball was also on target, while Tavern’s goals came courtesy of two apiece from Nik Lishman and Jordan Keeling.

Bengal All Stars drew 2-2 against Westwood FC in Martin Buckley Division Two.



HEYSIDE waited until extra-time before scoring three goals which sent them into the Huddersfield FA Challenge Cup semi-finals at the expense of West Riding Premier League outfit Lepton Highlanders.

After a goalless 90 minutes, Heyside finally broke the deadlock thanks to a Jason Titterington strike in the first extra period. Following the opening goal Heyside took control and Titterington went on to complete a memorable hat-trick.

Heyside reserves’ relegation woes continued as they were defeated 6-2 at Netherton reserves.

In Division One, Uppermill drew 1-1 at Holmbridge, while Diggle earned a deserved point following a 2-2 draw at Shepley.
