RUGBY UNION:
Oldham 3, De La Salle 24
OLDHAM were hardly flattered by the scoreline against a team flying high in third place in North Lancashire Division One.
The Manor Park men had long spells with possession, but De La Salle put together some flowing moves to win the game.
Oldham applied pressure from the off, but De La Salle were always able to counterattack.
The home pack dominated for much of the game with Ross Cooper, John Souter and Dean and Jordan McEwan making important contributions.
Jamie Edwards stepped in at hooker after Jake Watson's injury did not clear, and he worked superbly with young Jack Taylor in the line-out.
Unfortunately for Oldham, De La Salle were able to capitalise on breaks, using flowing passing to cross the line after 12 minutes when Shaun Watson scored in the corner. The conversion was missed.
But 15 minutes later, Jordan McEwan was successful with a penalty to reduce the arrears.
Oldham were trying to run the ball when they could, but De La Salle pressed on to 19-3 at half-time.
After the break, the new half-back pairing of Gareth Barber and Jordan Green showed good control, but Oldham began to tire and De La Salle had long periods with the ball.
It really wasn’t Oldham's day. When they needed luck, it just wasn't there.
