Waterhead fold after promising opening

RUGBY:
A DOZEN points to the good with a quarter of the game played, Waterhead were seemingly on course for a third win of the season in National Conference League Division One.
But home side Hunslet Warriors roared back in the remaining 60 minutes to run out 52-12 winners.
Tries from Kieran Grennan and Dale Lowe, both converted by Mick Diveney, put Andy Sands’ men in a position where they should have gone on to snare maximum points.
But Waterhead found themselves behind at half-time as Nathan Robinson (two) and Liam Gale touched down for the Warriors and Gary McClelland kicked a goal.
The visitors never got a look-in after the break.
SADDLEWORTH Rangers, from NCL Division One, bowed out of the Tier Four Challenge Cup — but they ran hosts Leigh East mighty close.
Kendal Davies, making his first-team debut at the age of 19, had a fine game for Rangers, crossing the line three times in the preliminary round contest.
Emmerson Jackman’s side went over four times — Josh Bradbury got the other try — but it was not enough to take them through.
OLDHAM St Anne’s had no game, but on Saturday will play Normanton Knights at home.
