MARK Smith, of Stamford, produced a superb display to win the Manchester Alliance Professional Matchplay title at Ashton on Mersey.
He faced Steve Parry (Hart Common) in the final and turned on the style to record a commanding 6 & 4 success.
It was a different story in the last four. Up against Martin Longshaw (Hindley Hall), the tie went to the second extra hole, where Smith (pictured with trophy) emerged victorious thanks to a fine putt from 20 feet.
The assistants final went to Mikey Boyle, son of Ashton-under-Lyne pro Colin.
Meanwhile, Stamford were beaten 4-3 at home by Ringway Golf Club in the Archie Preston, but the club’s junior team won 5-2 at Whitefield in the BMW competition.
