CRICKET: FRESH from their winning start to the Lake Garage CLL Championship season, Werneth go to Crompton on Sunday for what promises to be a revealing derby match.
After bowling out Radcliffe for 61 at the Coppice on Sunday, Werneth fell over the finishing line, scoring the runs they needed for the loss of seven wickets.
It was a difficult wicket as the top scorer in the game was new Werneth opener Syed Haider with 14.
More runs will be needed at Glebe Street, though the home side’s continuing batting problems surfaced again at Monton and Weaste.
Crompton were dismissed for only 90..
It’s been a difficult start to the season without pro Michael Pote, overseas amateur Denis Louis and Darren Lee, who has other commitments.
Pote is expected to arrive in the UK next week, but Louis will not be present until May 6.
Crompton’s stand-in professional this weekend is ex-Delph and Stayley paid man Bilal Khiljee.
Royton recovered from an unpromising position to beat Oldham on the first day of the season.
Denny Hulme’s side will look to build on that win when they go to Unsworth on Sunday.
Royton will be without professional Ben Dunk again due to visa problems.
Worcestershire wicketkeeper/batsman Ben Cox is Sunday’s deputy.
Oldham play host to Monton and Weaste.
