NO prizes for guessing what the weather did on the opening day of the 2013 Versasteel Saddleworth and District season.

Rain meant only two games finished in Division One, and Weather Time was used in both to set an amended target for the team batting second to chase.

Andy Young, in his first match back at Austerlands following a spell as Shaw captain, took the bowling honours at Nursery Field, claiming four for 38 as opponents Hollinwood were dismissed for 116.

A break for rain left Austerlands chasing 78 in 25 overs, reached with the loss of four wickets.

Heyside recorded a first-day win with two wickets to spare, chasing 124 in 25 overs at home to Droylsden.

For a few moments it looked as if Saddleworth's game against reigning champions Bamford Fieldhouse at Well-i-Hole would be completed following a lengthy delay.

Needing a revised 108 in 22 overs, Bamford had moved to 10 without loss in the second over when the umpires abandoned the game due to a slippery run-up area.

Saddleworth had scored 174 for eight from 45 overs.

The remaining four matches in Division One also ended early due to to the weather.

DELPH professional Kevin Hook scored 62 as his side got off to a flying start in the Drakes Huddersfield League on Saturday.

The hosts racked up 229 for nine, before skittling out opponents Shelley for 98.

Aaron Lilley took seven for 21.

Rain-soaked Delph were then knocked out of the Heavy Woollen Cup, 2-1 on a bowl-out on Sunday, against New Farnley.
