Wise choice

JIM Wiseman drew the favoured peg in the latest Oldham Central AC match on Cudmore Fisheries’ Suez Canal.
Opting for the 13-metre pole and pellet, he caught 36lb 11oz of carp to 4lb.
Wiseman’s tally could have been a lot more as he lost almost as many as he caught.
Malc Taylor (Gilders) managed a second-best net of carp tempted by maggot in the margins. He weighed in 17lb 5oz.
THE second round of the Huddersfield Broad Canal Spring series was tough going, with clear water the problem.
I caught tiny roach on bread punch and should have stuck to that approach but instead I went for it — and paid dearly with a mid-section point score.
Paul Booth again won his section, and Simon Walton came back with a fourth in his section.
CHRIS Oliver topped the latest Todmorden AS match on Townhouse thanks to a 69lb 10oz net of carp on the tip, bread and pellet.
Second was Chris Lett, with plenty of silvers falling to the pole, worm and caster for 30lb 8oz.
TODMORDEN AS are staging junior matches every Thursday evening.
The draw is at 5.45pm, with fishing from 6.15pm to 8.15pm.

CONRAD Taylor topped the first of the Medlock Bridge AC Saturday open matches on the Park Lake with a 20lb net made up of skimmers, tench, chub and roach on the pole and maggot.
Bob Harrison, in second place, had a similar net to the winner of 19lb.
TAMESIDE postal worker Andy Oldfield loves carp fishing and I can understand why.
Spending four days at Wyreside Fisheries, Oldfield took an outstanding catch of five carp to 14lb, one 18lb and two 25lb of mirror carp.
They fell to popped-up tiger nut boilies tipped with a piece of flouro corn.
