Glory-chasers sink shot-shy Springhead

FOOTBALL:
SPRINGHEAD suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division title-chasers Walshaw.
In a tight game the visitors who started brightly and dominated without ever threatening the Head goal.
As the half wore on the hosts came into their own, although they also struggled to make clear-cut opportunities.
Walshaw took the lead after the interval when poor defending from a setpiece allowed Chapman time and space to fire home from close range. Head pushed for an equaliser and were unfortunate when Richard Bennett saw his header disallowed from what appeared an onside position.
Springhead slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Wythenshawe Town on Tuesday.
THERE was some joy at Springhead last weekend as the reserve team secured the Division Two title following a 5-2 success at Wythenshawe Town.
Leighton Stephenson led the way with a hat-trick, while Mark Hopwood scored twice.
BACK in the Premier Division, Avro secured a deserved 2-0 win at Prestwich Heys, but Royton Town were edged out 1-0 at home by Hindsford.
LAST night’s action saw Springhead move up a place to sixth in the top flight courtesy of a 3-1 home victory against Wythenshawe Amateurs.
