FOOTBALL: Diggle player-boss Richard Devyhas has at last reached a ceditable 150 goals at first-team level for Huddersfield and District League side Diggle.

Forty-one-year-old Devy, a Diggle stalwart of two decades, reached 148 two seasons ago before injury ruled him out of action for much of the intervening period.

Devy made it 149 on a rare first-team appearance last October, before hitting the milestone with the winning goal as Diggle overcame Berry Brow in Division One.

Devy said: "It will stop the ribbing from the lads, but the goal came as both a shock and a relief."

Devy scored in the 66th minute after arriving as a substitute 10 minutes earlier.

Devy goals have come from 354 first-team appearances in 20 years.

MANAGER Paddy McGuirk is hoping to cap a fine first season in charge of the Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League representative side with victory in Sunday’s Three-Counties Inter-League Trophy final against the Rochdale SL at Boundary Park.

McGuirk guided Oldham into the final as they brushed aside the Hyde SL 9-3 on aggregate in the last four.

He said: “I’ve loved every minute of being in charge of the inter-league side. Hopefully we can cap the season off by winning the trophy.”

McGuirk is quietly confident, going into Sunday’s game. “All I will predict is an Oldham win,” he said. The kick-off is at 12.30pm.
