DELPH got their defence of the Sykes Cup off to a flying start.

Entertaining Drakes Huddersfield League Conference outfit Armitage Bridge in a first-round clash, Grant Jones’s side bowled the visitors out for 155.

In reply, it was pretty much plain-sailing as, thanks to good knocks from Arron Lilley (78 not out) and pro Kevin Hook (50 not out), Delph reached their target for the loss of just two wickets.

There was a win and a defeat for WOODHOUSES from their Lees Brewery Lancashire County League double-header.

On Saturday, they endured a heavy first defeat of 2013 when hosting Prestwich.

The visitors racked up a challenging 240 for eight batting first. Woodhouses rarely looked like gaining a foothold as they were skittled out for just 97.

They had better fortune 24 hours later at Denton.

Taking first knock, Woodhouses reached 279 for five as Mike Cassidy crashed 89 and Shereryat Hassan 94.

As Denton tried valiantly to chase a daunting target, Farrukh Bukhari took five for 68 as the hosts were eventually bowled out for 196.
