ANGLING:
FRED Prudham bagged top honours on the impressive Park Lake.
Using maggot in conjunction with a waggler, he caught chub, skimmers, roach and two tench for a match-winning 20lb 12oz.
Runner-up Alan Sixsmith was drawn on peg 11, where he used the 11 and 13-metre pole and maggot on the hook for good bream to 3lb as well as chub, skimmers and a few roach. A few got away — and that proved the difference as he ended up with a 19lb 12oz net.
Monday’s Medlock Bridge AC match at the same venue was even better.
Pete Cuniffe, among the also-rans on Saturday, emerged victorious.
Using the hemp and caster approach, he had 26lb 6oz of skimmers, roach, chub and tench in a net of more than 50 fish.
Prudham had to settle for second place this time, with some maggot on the hook alternating between the pole and waggler for 25lb 7oz of good bream, chub and roach.
GED Martin had more reasons to celebrate than his rivals after clinching victory in Bank Holiday Monday’s match on the Morrisons length of the Rochdale Canal.
Using various methods, he had 10lb 3oz catch of good roach.
Paul Booth, of Trabucco Halifax claimed second place with 9lb 10oz of small roach on caster, bread punch and squatt the day after winning his section in the Slaithwaite open.
Sunday’s match on the Broadgate length of the Rochdale Canal went to Dave Brierley (Maver NW), who tempted tench and roach on bread punch, caster and worm for an easy 12lb win.
WEIGHTS were fantastic for the first Diggle AC Tuesday evening match of the year.
Organiser Dave Machin bagged the spoils thanks to 15lbs of silvers and a handful of carp, which tipped the scales at 30lb 7oz. Runner-up Wally Butler had a 20lb 8oz catch, which included two carp.
BIG carp made an impact in the Monarch AC match on the club water. The winner, Craig Bradford, had one as well as plenty of small ide on maggot in his 31lb net.
Eric Hardy was another angler on carp watch, and he also had one in a 30lb 10oz catch, which also included some skimmers on corn.
TONY Horton took the spoils in an open match on the Dunkirk length of the Peak Forest Canal courtesy of a level 6lb. He had an all-roach net on pole and bread punch over liquidised feed.
Mick Travis, in second place, opted for bread and caster at various lengths for 3lb 14oz of skimmers and roach.
