WERNETH, winners of the Archie Preston mixed foursomes title in 2011, haven’t won a game since.
They bowed out at the opening stage as defending champions and this time around lost 4.5-2.5 at Lowes Park (Bury).
Captain James Buckley and lady captain Glynis Jones won 6&5, while Paul Rowbotham and Marilyn Griffiths came from two down with three to play to win on the last green. John Yemm and Sheila Waterhouse halved by winning the last two holes.
Paul Gough and Peter Meggison teamed up to pocket the invitation day spoils — a four-ball betterball Stableford — at OLDHAM.
They had 43 points, two clear of Ted Rae and Martin Heap, with Barry Lewis and Steve Castigan (41pts) back in third place.
Meanwhile at STAMFORD, the Cheetham Cup was abandoned because of heavy rain. New date to be arranged.
LINDA Melling was an emphatic winner of the Winterbottom Cup at CROMPTON and ROYTON.
Carding a score of 93-28-65, she finished clear of Maureen Delaney (97-24-73).
At BROOKDALE, Barbara Oliver, grandmother of promising young member Katie, collected the Pauline Coney Trophy thanks to a round of 87-22-65. The runner-up was Val Brogan with 97-31-66.
