CYCLING:
OLDHAM Century Road Club is gearing up for its annual Mountain Time Trial.
Riders will gather on Wednesday for the 25th staging of the Ian J Crossley Memorial event — named after member Ian following his death in a road accident when he was 18.
Ian’s parents donated the trophy in his memory.
To mark the 25th anniversary, Ian’s father Jim, also a member of the club, will travel from his home in Spain to take part.
This year’s event has attracted more entries than usual; up to 50 riders will tackle the 18.5 mile course from Greenfield to Meltham and back via Wessenden Head.
The event has attracted some top-class riders in the past, with the course record held by Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman.
The first rider will start at 6.30pm, with the rest of the field starting at one minute intervals.
