Cadd double isn’t enough for Saints

MAKING PROGRESS: Saints’ Jason Best looks for an opening.
Oldham St Anne’s 16, Leigh East 34
MICHAEL Cadd scored two tries but they weren’t enough to stop Oldham St Anne’s losing to Leigh East in the National Conference League Division Two.
The Higginshaw Road crowd witnessed a gutsy performance from the hosts, but a last-minute converted try from star man Kieron Dainty confirmed East’s superiority.
St Anne’s were already 12-0 behind when sub Cadd went over for his opening score in the 34th minute. Kiel Lancashire converted.
East centre Sam Grainey handed the visitors a 16-6 lead when he went over seconds before the break.
Debutant Chris Bell gave Saints hope when he scored a try shortly after the restart, with Lancashire converting.
But after James Noon pounced to make it 20-10, St Anne’s saw Jordan White sin-binned for persistent fouling. Noon went over for a second try, converted by Adam Holland, to make it 26-10.
Cadd then dived in under the posts, but it was too little, too late.
Saints travel to Eastmoor Dragons on Saturday.
