MARTIAL ARTS:
Sporting prodigy Kai Sweeting has qualified for the prestigious WTKA World Championships in Italy in October.
Kai (11), a pupil at St Aiden’s and Oswald’s Primary School in Royton, qualified for Italy after finishing third at a mixed martial arts tournament in Sheffield. And that is despite only taking up the sport — at the Dojo Club in Rochdale — shortly before Christmas!
Proud mum Kate said: “It’s all been a bit of whirlwind for Kai really. Pretty much as soon as he started it seemed he was capable of going a long way in the sport. We were all over the moon when he qualified for the world championships in Italy.”
Single working mum Kate now faces a funding dilemma and is trying to find sponsors for the trip. Offers to help their fundraising to Kate (07841 901012).
