Gilgryst Cup joy for Avro
Date published: 17 May 2013
FOOTBALL; AVRO saw off Oldham neighbours Springhead 3-0 in the Gilgryst Cup final.
Avro were the better team in the first half, and just after the hour a diagonal ball from the left saw Kelvin White nip in and beat the offside trap to slot home.
Three minutes later it was 2-0 as a corner from the left skidded off a defender’s head before dropping to Callum Jackson, who directed the ball into the net.
As Springhead pushed forward relentlessly, they left gaps at the back and with the game about to enter stoppage time, substitute James Hampson struck a shot high into the net to wrap up victory against last year’s cup winners.
