Double booking on cards for top clubs

CRICKET: THINGS could get very interesting for Bamford Fieldhouse and Heyside this weekend.

Tomorrow sees the first round of the Tanner Cup with six ties set to go ahead, weather permitting.

Both Heyside (LCB Cup) and Bamford (ECB National Cup) are due to take part in competitions outside the league on Sunday.

But if the Tanner Cup ties they are involved in don’t start tomorrow – and the weather forecast suggests that might be likely - it will have an impact on their games the following day. Sunday has been set aside by the league as a reserve day for the Tanner Cup.

To get out of a potentially sticky situation, the clubs will be hoping some play will be possible tomorrow — which means the opportunity will be there to return on Monday night (and every night thereafter) until a conclusion is reached.

Heyside, the holders, appear to have a straightforward route to the second round. They go to winless Micklehurst, a ground at which opener John Selby and professional Gerrie Snyman have already made runs this season, in the defeat of Hollinwood in the Twenty20 Cup final.

Droylsden are Bamford’s opponents and it is difficult to see the hosts - who have enjoyed a decent start to the summer - troubling the six-time winners.

Glodwick, last year’s beaten finalists, welcome back a familiar face in Imran Aslam - but the Pakistani pro is these days employed by opponents Austerlands.
