Knockout blow for Werneth

CRCKET: WERNETH suffered Wood Cup heartbreak yesterday when they lost to Rochdale on the minutest of inferior run rates.

Both teams were bowled out at the Coppice for 148 so out came the rule book and it revealed that the side which had the better run rate - in this case faced fewer balls - be declared the winner.

Werneth made their runs in 48.4 overs, Rochdale theirs in 48.2. So, on the basis of two more balls faced, Werneth are out of the CLL's premier knock-out competition.

Architect of Rochdale's win was South African professional Wensley Lansdale who top scored with 47 and took four wickets for 16 runs.

Joe Taylor collected three for 15 for Werneth.


ROYTON suffered a crushing 10-wicket loss at Monton and Weaste, who comprehensively turned round recent league form.
Liam Brown was top scorer with 29 as Royton were skittled for just 104, professional Paul Green taking four for 21.

In reply, Monton raced to 105 for none thanks to a rapid unbeaten 78 from young Ben Chapman and 21 from Green.


OLDHAM were also on the wrong end of a dominant display against Clifton at the Pollards.
Taking first guard, Clifton piled up 258 for six thanks to 82 from Lachlan Mason, an unbeaten 61 from Dean Morris and 44 by Adam Holt. Zoaib Shah took three for 29.

Oldham were then blasted out for a meagre 60 despite paid man Mohammed Siddique's unbeaten 35.

Steve Cheetham was the destroyer-in-chief with seven for 31.
