Hawk swoop to fill vacancy

FLASHBACK: Sheila Cooper hoists the Chronicle Cup after last year’s win.
GOLF: CASTLE HAWK have filled the vacancy in the Oldham and District Golf League’s ‘B’ Division which was created by Oldham fielding only one team.
They made their league bow at early pacesetters Crompton and Royton and, while they did not claim any points, it was a tight affair with three of the four games reaching at least the penultimate green.
Late wins were the order of the day for Werneth ‘B’ as they had a surprise 5-3 success at Brookdale with Quentin Cartwright and Paul Hanley winning the last three holes to win two up from one down, and Glenn Shaw and Tony McNamara coming from four down with four to play to claim an unlikely match-winning half.
It’s tight all around in the ‘A’ Section, and Oldham will have been boosted by a 6-2 victory over Crompton and Royton in the West Division.
SADDLEWORTH’S Sheila Cooper will defend the Chronicle Women’s Cup at Crompton and Royton next Wednesday.
The winner at Brookdale 12 months ago when a 23 handicapper, Sheila starts the defence of her crown off a new mark of 21.
