BOWLS: THE Green Final Handicap has bucked the trend of falling entries in crown green bowling competitions.
Though many tournaments have been struggling to gain entries and a high percentage have disappeared in years, the Chronicle-sponsored Green Final this week reached its target of 64 entries.
Heats will be held at Nimble Nook, North Chadderton, Royton and Stanley Road on Fridays, June 7 and 14. The draw will be published in Tuesday’s edition. The finals will be held — for the first time — at Moorside, on Saturday, July 6.
TONGE suffered a huge blow to their hopes of winning a third successive Manchester Premier League title when they slumped to a 13.5-3 (194-160) home defeat at the hands of high-flying St Joseph’s of Chorley.
The only winners for Tonge were Graham Hickey (21-9), Nicky Brooks (21-18) and Darren Griffiths (21-20).
MIDDLETON and District will have a strong Oldham contingent in their line-up when they take on UK Police in a Federation National League match on Sunday (2pm).
The home leg will be held at Nimble Nook, with the away match in Littleover, Derbyshire.
C AND J Lord and B Seville and M Fish will carry the Oldham flag in the finals of the Brennan Paving mixed pairs at Norden BC, Rochdale, on Sunday (5.30pm).
Entries are being taken for Norden’s Thwaites men’s pairs and AC Ventilation women’s pairs.
Qualifying nights are Sundays June 16, 23 and 30, July 7, 14, 21 and 28, and August 4 (5.30pm). Finals will be held on Sunday, August 11. Entry costs £10 per pair. For more information, ring Steve or Jean on 01706 527219 or 07767 674699.
THE Indoor League at Oldham Sports Centre has vacancies for its Tuesday and Thursday night sections and for one team in the Wednesday triples, the latter being a mixed competition.
