CRICKET: DELPH suffered a dramatic defeat at Kirkburton in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership on Saturday.
Batting first against their fellow high-fliers, Delph grafted their way to 158 for nine from their 50 overs, with Graeme Simpson hitting 57 and skipper Grant Jones 46.
Delph's in-form professional Kevin Hook bagged five wickets for 35 in Kirkburton's reply, but final pair Matthew Garrety (24 not out) and Shaun Woodhams (13 not out) guided the hosts to 159 for nine with just five balls to spare.
Delph were hoping to bounce back to winning ways today with a home fixture against rock-bottom Hoylandswaine (1.30pm start).
WOODHOUSES marched to a convincing home victory over Stand in the Lees Brewery Lancashire County League.
The visitors batted first and were skittled for 143. In reply, Nick Hardman was the star of the show as his 77 not out helped Woodhouses to 144 for four and a maximum five-points haul.
