IN MEMORY: Jim Crossley rode in Oldham Century Road Club’s annual Mountain Time Trial, held 25 years after his son Ian’s death.
CYCLING:
DAVID Kinloch was the overall winner of Oldham Century Road Club’s annual Mountain Time Trial, in the 25th staging of the Ian J Crossley Memorial event.
The event is dedicated to the late Oldham Century rider who died aged 18 in a road accident on holiday in East Anglia. Ian’s father Jim made the journey from his home in Spain to take part in the ride.
Kinloch, a Club Ilkley CC rider, finished at the head of a three-man battle for first place, with all three riders within a minute of each other as they crossed the line in Greenfield.
Kinloch’s 52 minutes 4 seconds put him in front of Ian Stott (Blackburn and District CTC) in 52:23.
Ben Gillespie of Saddleworth Clarion was the top-ranked local rider, finishing third in 52:45.
A total of 53 riders were at the start line for the 18.5 mile course from Greenfield, over the Isle of Skye road to Meltham, and back via Wessenden Head.
