Champions Uppermill set for Manchester League

UPPERMILL, champions of the Huddersfield and District League Division One, are setting their sights on pastures new.
Simon Tait’s side lost only one game in a magnificent campaign to clinch the title by a seven-point margin.
Members since 1962, it was Uppermill’s first league success.
They are now looking to switch to the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League, possibly as early as next season.
Tait said: “We have been knocking on the door of the title for two or three seasons now, so it’s great to have finally done it.
“I can’t praise the squad highly enough. There is strength in depth in all positions, which is important when you are faced with night matches at the end of the season.”
Tait had a special pat on the back for defender Lee Rainford, who recovered from a back injury to regain his place in the side after Christmas.
He also lauded the talents of midfield trio Bobby Greenwood, Joe Longmore and Gareth Chew.
Looking forward, Uppermill are hoping to get the all-clear soon to start a new chapter in their history.
They are hoping to enter two sides in the Manchester League, while fielding three teams in the Huddersfield League.
And, fingers crossed, they should be back on Churchill playing fields next season as well, with work on the playing area nearing completion.
