BOXING:

RONNIE Heffron is back in business with a well-deserved points victory on Saturday night.

Twenty two-year-old Oldham welterweight prospect Heffron got back to winning ways at Walsall Town Hall as he beat Kieron Gray comfortably over six rounds.

Referee Terry O'Connor gave every round to Heffron, scoring the contest 60 to 54 — meaning the Boarshaw Gym fighter is now back on track following a first professional defeat six months ago against Denton Vassell.

After watching Heffron extend his record to 12 wins and that solitary defeat in his 13 fights in the paid ranks, trainer Ben Lancaster said: "Ronnie was in good form and he won each round clearly.

"Ronnie wore Gray down, and though there was a bit of ring rust we were all chuffed with his performance. He's showed that he's right back on track."

Former ABA champion Heffron is now pencilled in to make an appearance on a show at the Olympia in Liverpool on June 28.
