WHALLEY Range’s application to join the Saddleworth and District Cricket League has received a positive response.
Club delegates were told of Whalley’s intentions at the latest monthly meeting of the league and asked to consider the proposal before voting on June 27.
The executive committee said Whalley’s ground put some of the league’s current grounds “to shame” and recommended acceptance for the 2014 season.
Some delegates suggested a 15th team might put undue pressure on fixtures, but the league has suggested the season could start a week earlier and the Twenty20 Cup shifted to a Friday evening instead of a weekend.
