Angling:

THERE was a bad skim on the surface which made presentation hard in the Oldham Central AC match on Cudmore Fisheries’ Suez Canal — but it didn’t bother Jim Wiseman.

He caught two good-sized carp as well as fish averaging 3lb to 4lb on worm and pellet down the centre track and right across for a superb 52lb 4oz.

Paul Nield was a long way adrift in second with a 34lb 4oz net on just his top section. He used worm and caster as feed and hookbait to land plenty of big skimmers, tench, carp and roach.

PAUL Vickers was victorious in the latest of the Diggle AC Tuesday evening matches on a patchy Tanners Dam.

Two big carp and 5lb of silvers for a 28lb 4oz net was good enough to deny Ian Cox, who had a 3lb carp and 15lb of skimmers.

Two-time Diggle winner this season, Chris Butterworth, was third with a 15lb 2oz catch made up of five carp and a few silvers. The inconsistent return was put down to fish spawning.

PETE Mottram claimed first place in the latest Todmorden AS Trophy match on Croft.

Using the pole, pellet and maggot approach, he bagged two big carp and some silvers for 27lb 8oz.

Runner-up Steve Hamer weighed in carp on pellet and maggot for 25lb 3oz.

DAVE Jones pocketed the main money in the Monarch AC Thursday evening match on the club water, with pole and maggot working well for 27lb 6oz of ide, roach and skimmers.

Next-best Dave Ireland was again in the frame, with his chopped worm and caster attack netting 26lb 12oz of chub, ide and skimmers.

CRANBERRY AC boast a cracking match calendar in 2013 and the latest fixture, on Blundells West Lodge, saw everyone catch in warm and blustery conditions.

Jack Cubby was the clear winner as his pellet and meat right across tempted 52lb 4oz of f1s and small carp.

Steven Eaton-Dykes, in second place, landed a 40lb 8oz mixed bag.

STEVE Hall won the Medlock Bridge AC Monday evening open match on the Park Lake.

He used chopped worm and pellet for 22lb 2oz of tench, skimmers and chub.

Paul Cunliffe was second. After tempting skimmers and chub on caster at 13 metres, a late run of skimmers on pellet took his weight to 21lb 4oz.

TODMORDEN AS have got their Tuesday evening series of matches under way. The draw time is up to 5.45pm, with fishing from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Details from Steve on 07813 038293.

CAIRO AC have acquired another three pegs on the overflow bank at Denshaw Vale, and John McDonald says the water is “fishing its head off”, with plenty of tench and rudd available.

Venue Guide

Denshaw Vale: Memberships available. Fishing well with tench and rudd feeding freely. For further details, contact John on 665 1779.

Dowry Reservoir: Day tickets available from Sheddings Angling. Fishing well for good carp and pike. Plenty of silvers to be had, too.

Ogden Reservoir: Day tickets on the bank and at Tight Lines in Shaw. Warm weather has switched on the fish, with plenty being caught. The hot-spot is around cottages towards the shallows.

Strinesdale Reservoir: Day tickets on the bank. With temperatures rising, expect the fish to feed. Maggot or caster for roach and skimmers.

Cargate pool: Medlock Bridge AC members-only water.

Rochdale Canal: Tench feeding. Saturday’s victor was on the Vinegar Works length. Bream should back on the feed this week.

Bardsley Canal: Day tickets on the bank.

Alexandra Park Lake: Day tickets on the bank. More than 30lb of skimmers won Saturday’s match and backing weights are good as well. Any bait will get results.

Hollingworth Lake: Bream and skimmers as well as plenty of silvers feeding.

Tanners Dam: Diggle AC members-only. Fish cleaning off this week after spawning, so weights will again improve.
