Royton’s tough test

AUSSIE POWER . . . Ben Dunk has already hit two centuries for Royton and will have his sights set on another at Monton and Weaste tomorrow.
CRICKET:
ROYTON face a tough test of their title credentials in tomorrow’s trip to Monton and Weaste.
Monton are especially strong at home and it needed a fightback of immense proportions for Werneth to win at their ground by a single wicket last Sunday.
WERNETH are showing much more consistency this year and the form book suggests they should be up to winning at Unsworth.
And OLDHAM will not get a better chance to return to winning ways than a home match against Ashton, who have yet to secure a victory this summer.
LEES Bitter Twenty20 Competition group matches conclude tonight with Oldham and Royton fighting it out in the South-East section to join Werneth in the knock-out stages.
Both clubs registered victories over Ashton, but lost to Werneth so whoever wins at the Pollards tonight goes through.
After two defeats in the North-East
section, Crompton’s match at Milnrow is only of academic interest.
ROYTON’S young stars Khurram Hussain, Chris Jewell and Callum Porteous are in the Lake Garage CLL colts’ team to play the North Lancs and Cumbria League in a Readers Inter League Competition group match at Furness CC on Sunday (1.30pm).
Rest of the team is: Dean Morris, capt (Clifton), Furgan Shafir, Ammir Riaz, Ali Nawiz (Monton and Weaste), Joe Kershaw, wk (Monton and Weaste), Jack Duffy (Rochdale), Tom Derbyshire (Clifton), Joe Smith-Butler (Littleborough), Saqib Mahmood (Middleton).
