Crompton will bid to stretch their 50-overs unbeaten run to six matches when they entertain Radcliffe tomorrow.

Carl Taylor’s men made a slow start to their Lake Garage CLL Championship campaign, but the arrival following a delay of professional Michael Pote and overseas amateur Denis Louis signalled a change in fortune. The recent signings of top-order batsmen Zafar Jatoi and Sam Cheshire, and imminent return of Darren Lee have led Crompton to believe they can go even higher than their current position of third.

Skipper Carl Taylor has presided over five successive victories in league and Wood Cup – “we are not counting our Twenty20 debacle at Walsden on Saturday, batting awful, shot selection horrible” – and clearly believes his side can continue to put pressure on leaders Royton and second-placed Werneth.

“There is a lot of confidence running through the side at the moment,” said Taylor.

“I think we are capable of giving anyone a game at the moment. Our bowling is very good and I have to say how impressed I have been with Ryan Mayes, who has deservedly got into the league team for Sunday.”
