ADNAN Farooq is the man to inspire the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s representative side on Sunday.

That’s the view of his Friarmere club skipper Abid Hussain ahead of the Readers Inter League Competition first-round clash against the Bolton League at Saddleworth CC.

Farooq has bagged 35 victims this season, including a nine-wicket haul against Shaw.

A rule change has allowed overseas amateurs to be selected in the competition for the first time, and Hussain is confident the Pakistani bowler, who previously played for Stayley, won’t let down the side.

“Adnan is enthusiastic, motivational and energetic,” said the Friarmere captain. “He has fitted in so well here and has been fantastic for us.

“He has never given anything short of 100-per-cent in whatever he has done — bowling, fielding or batting. He has been an inspiration.

“He wants to win and tries all the time to lift our performances to meet his own expectations.”

Greenfield’s Alex Peters takes charge of the team, which features his brother Mark, who plays for Austerlands, behind the stumps.

Leading amateur bowler Saif Ur Rehman is in the XI, so, too, his skipper at Droylsden, Gareth Dent.

Micklehurst’s Michael Blomeley makes his league debut, and is expected to open with John Selby, one of a trio of players from Heyside.

The league selectors are unable to pick from Bamford Fieldhouse, Moorside and Uppermill as all three teams are playing LCB Cup, second-round ties.
