RUGBY:
SADDLEWORTH Rangers’ fightback was in vain as the team slipped to a 30-22 loss at home to Dewsbury Celtic in National Conference League Division One.
The result leaves Emmerson Jackman’s men in deep relegation trouble – though they can at least take heart that they refused to throw in the towel.
Both sides had a player sent off — Danny Turner for Rangers and Josh Brooke for the visitors — in an unforgiving clash at Shaw Hall Bank Road.
The home side was 16 points adrift after the first quarter, with Nick Crabtree, Pat Foulstone and Jason Muranka finding the gaps. Nick Crabtree kicked a pair of goals.
Eric Johnson and Mick Coates, with a try and conversion, reduced the deficit, and when Joe Boulter went over, it was very much game on.
But Tom Halloran and Scott Green reestablished Celtic’s advantage.
WATERHEAD’S hopes of creeping into the top four were dashed with a 26-16 loss at Millom.
The Cumbrians were 10 points in front by half-time and managed to maintain their lead.
Terry Fitzgerald, Jake Maher and Dale Lowe dived in for Waterhead — Jamie Mayall kicked two goals — while Lee Edmondson (two), Anthony Green, Paul Evans and Simon Pearson touched down for Millom.
