WERNETH moved to the top of the Lake Garage CLL Championship with victory at Ashton — and Royton’s lack of activity at Radcliffe.
Rain rendered the playing surface at the Racecourse unfit, but Werneth were able to play their match at Reyner Lane, albeit in a 35-overs encounter.
But they had to survive a hairy moment or two before overcoming the division’s bottom club.
Despite Joe Taylor’s 30, Werneth were bowled out for 123 as Khurram Ali took four for 29 and
professional Naweed Ghany three for 57.
But Taylor was just as effective with the ball, collecting four for 40 as Ashton’s suspect batting line-up was skittled for only 96.
CROMPTON swept aside Oldham in yesterday’s local derby at Glebe Street.
Only professional Siddique Mohammed (31) made an impact as Oldham were bowled out for 105, home skipper Carl Taylor taking a season’s-best eight for 38.
And that target proved easy meat for Crompton, who raced to 106 for one, professional Michael Pote hitting an unbeaten 54.
