RUGBY:
DOMINANT Oulton thumped Saddleworth Rangers to fire their promotion hopes — and leave the Greenfield club in the mire.
To top a bad day for Emmerson Jackman’s side - who lost their Division One encounter 52-22 - assistant coach Paul Ashton was dismissed from the touchline for referee abuse.
Entering the afternoon looking for a third win from four home games, Rangers went ahead after two minutes. But that was as good as it got in the first half for Saddleworth. Five opposition tries and coversions before the break killed the contest at 30-6.
Rangers scored first in a second half that restored some pride. But Oulton were too strong.
Phil Wood had the final say for Rangers, but the heavy defeat leaves the club still two points adrift of safety.
