Boxing:

OLDHAM welterweight prospect Ronnie Heffron will be back in ring action on July 20 at London’s Wembley Arena.

The 22 year old was originally slated to fight on Friday in Liverpool on the undercard of Denton Vassell’s British and Commonwealth title clash.

But that plan has been scrapped and Heffron handed a higher-profile slot on the Dereck Chisora versus Malik Scott heavyweight showdown card.

An opponent has yet to be found for Wembley, but Heffron’s trainer at Boarshaw Gym, Ben Lancaster, says his fighter is looking good.

“The Chisora bill is a good one,” said Lancaster. “Ronnie is constantly showing improvement.”

Heffron won his first 11 fights as a pro before losing to Vassell seven months ago in a short-notice Commonwealth title shot.

The local ace returned to the ring on June 1 after leaving trainer Anthony Farnell to rejoin Lancaster, and took a convincing 60-54 points win over Gray at Walsall Town Hall.
