Silverware thrill as Audrey bags captain’s prize

GOLF:
AUDREY Whittaker posted a second-round nett 76 on her way to winning Lady Captain’s Day at Crompton and Royton.
Together with a 71, she carded a 147 total for a one-shot victory over Ros Hendren (71+77=148).
Brenda Keaney collected the first-day prize (nett 70) and Jennifer Kenworthy (nett 73) bagged the second-day award.
Meanwhile, Bev Scholes won the Centenary Trophy at OLDHAM after an 18-hole play-off.
She returned a nett 70 to claim victory from Anne Rotchell.
There was further success for Scholes in the Mr Captain’s Prize competition as she carded the best gross score for the two rounds — 82 and 85 for a 167 total.
Jill Nolan was the winner, posting 71 and 64 (135), with Chris Peirson collecting runner-up spot thanks to a 64 and 73 (137).
The first-day prize went to Julia Wild (88-23-65) and Mary Buckley (83-14=69) picked up second-day honours. Jane Antrobus (first sweep, 73-79=142) and Julie Connolly (second sweep, 80-71=151) were also on the roll of honour.
