CAPTAIN FANTASTIC: Crompton’s Carl Taylor tormented Oldham last weekend.
CRICKET: A LAKE Garage Central Lancashire League double-header weekend gets underway tomorrow with an intriguing derby clash at the Pollards as Oldham play Royton.
The visitors were washed out last weekend and pushed off the top of the table by Werneth, who won at Ashton.
Oldham have had a poor season so far. Following a thumping at Crompton they are second from bottom.
But Rashid Hussain’s young side is capable of upsetting the odds; Royton can’t afford complacency.
Denny Hulme’s team will be fancied to win tomorrow — as they will 24 hours later as they play mid-table Unsworth at the Paddock.
Oldham’s Sunday features a trip to a Monton and Weaste side who are only one place above them heading into the weekend, although there is an 11-point gap between the two.
Last weekend Werneth were pushed hard by bottom side Ashton before grabbing the win that put them top. Tomorrow they go to Radcliffe.
The Bury outfit is comfortably in mid-table, while a tougher derby task awaits on Sunday as third-placed Crompton visit the Coppice.
The gap between Crompton and Royton, in the second promotion place, is a whopping 13 points. Captain Carl Taylor was almost unplayable with the ball as he returned eight for 38 in that big win against Oldham at Glebe Street.
Taylor’s men warm up for their tussle at Werneth with a home game against Monton and Weaste tomorrow.
