Delph bounce back in style
Date published: 02 July 2013
DELPH secured a priceless victory over second-placed Golcar in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership.
They suffered a potentially-harmful defeat at sixth-placed Honley on Saturday, but rallied in style 24 hours later to see off their fellow title-hopefuls.
Batting first, Delph scarcely put a foot wrong as Irfan Zahoor's excellent 112, together with Kevin Hook's 64, Graeme Simpson's 30 and Luke Hargreaves' 40 not out, helped set an imposing total of 318 for five.
Delph's bowling was as devastating as their batting. Arron Lilley took five for 30 and Faisal Butt four for 21 as Golcar were skittled for just 123.
Yesterday's heroics were in stark contrast to a day earlier when Delph were well beaten at Honley.
Batting first, Jones' men racked up 218 all out with Lilley hitting 68, Hook 49 and Simpson 36.
But Simon Kelly was Delph's tormentor-in-chief, smashing 102 not out as his side reached 220 for four.
