Teenager’s debut sweet and sour

AS debuts go, Inderdip Singh had one he will not forget in a hurry in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League on Saturday.

The 16-year-old leg-spinner, signed from Denton St Lawrence in the Lancashire County League, grabbed six for 69 for new club Micklehurst against Glodwick at Castle Lane.

Singh’s efforts could not prevent the visitors from piling up 241 – Anees Ur Rehman made 67 – or stave off a 115-run defeat, but it is good to see a bowler, and a young one at that, who offers something a bit different.

Glodwick went on to record a straightforward win – professional Rehan Rafiq picked up four for 22 – to remain third in the table.

It is as you were at the top.

Leaders Heyside beat Uppermill by five wickets at Little Hey Street – Paul Thompson scored 67 and paid man Gerrie Snyman collected five for 32 as the visitors were limited to 166 for nine – while second-placed Bamford Fieldhouse swept aside Shaw by eight wickets at Holebottom Clough.

Bamford’s victory was all about two men, Babar Khan and Josh Tolley.

Khan’s figures were an incredible six for nine from 13 overs. The leg spinner recorded nine maidens.

As for Tolley, the prolific amateur batsman smashed 61 as Bamford achieved their target of 106 in only 10.4 overs.
