Khans dazzle for leaders

Date published: 02 July 2013

CAN we do it? Yes, we Khan, seems to be the message from Lake Garage CLL Championship pacesetters Werneth.

The leaders enhanced their position at the top on Saturday thanks to superb performances from professional Mohammed Zaman Khan and his namesake, Rash.

Zaman smashed a brilliant unbeaten 126 not out as Werneth, batting first at Radcliffe, racked up 268 for seven from their 50 overs. Home professional Michael Burns took five for 111.

And Rash collected a decisive five for 34 haul as the hosts were bowled out for 144 despite 60 from Annis Patel.

ROYTON, who surrendered the lead when their previous match was rained off, remained hot on Werneth's heels thanks to a three-wicket derby victory at Oldham.

Malik Usman hit 52 as Oldham were bowled out for 134 after taking first guard, Royton's promising young all-rounder Callum Porteous taking six for 52.

That proved to be a tricky target for Royton who surrendered seven wickets before crossing the winning line.

Professional Ben Dunk's 55 proved to be a match-winning knock for the visitors.
