WERNETH can place one hand on the Lake Garage CLL Championship trophy – and their first league title since the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939 – by beating Royton at the Paddock tomorrow.
In the biggest match in the division so far this season, both teams will be desperate for success.
Royton can narrow the gap on leaders Werneth to just two points with a maximum-points success, but if the verdict goes the other way the visitors will go a whopping 12 clear at the top.
And skipper Matthew Taylor is urging his men to do just that.
“We have to push the boat out and get the five points which would open up that 12-point gap,” he said.
“It’s been a fantastic season for us so far, but if we want to win the title we have to remain focused and not get complacent.
“This club has not won a league title since the outbreak of the Second World War when it was leading and the season was ended halfway through.
“So it’s about time Werneth put that right and we are in a great position to do so.”
